Appreciation of Services.— Tlie Avondale Borough Council, in view of its approaching extinction, recorded last evening its appreciation of the services of the superintendent and members of the Avondale Fire Brigade. Concession To Tahiti Visitors.— British travellers going to Tahiti no longer require to have their passports vised at the French Consulate, according to advice received from M. Paul Serre, French Consul here. If they stay in the colony more than eight days, however, they have to pay a tax of 30 francs gold, £2, for the permit of residence.
