MOTOR TRAFFIC BREACHES Before Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M., at the Whangarei Magistrate’s Court yesterday, Alfred Ebbett, agent for Dominion Motors, Ltd., Auckland, was fined £2 and 10s costs’ for using registration plates belonging to another man’s car. For exceeding the speed limit on motor vehicles, Thomas D. Wilson, Samuel Hoey, Douglas A. Wilson, Herbert Robins, Alexander Clark, Albert A. Nicholas, Arthur Sutcliffe, Robert Hamilton, Walter J. Watson, R. J. Hosking, A. J. Atkinson and George Kerr were each convicted and fined 20s and costs 12s. For causing an obstruction with a motor-lorry in Bank Street, Charles Wright was fined 10s with 10s costs. Thomas Mason, a taxi-driver, was fined 10s and costs 10s for not keeping in his proper order during a blockage at the Kensington Park corner. OFFENCES BY CYCLISTS Harold Holdaway was fined 10s and costs 10s for riding a cycle without a light. James H. Marwick and George W. Miller were each convicted and ordered to pay 10s costs for riding a cycle on the footpath on Maunu Road. OVERHANGING HEDGE

Gertrude McGregor, whom prosecuting counsel described as a big property owner, was charged with having a hedge overhanging the footpath. This had been a nuisance for years, and in spite of repeated warnings defendant had failed to have it cut down, only doing so after the summons was issued. The magistrate imposed a fine of £2 together with £1 13s costs. CHANGE OF ADDRESS For failing to notify the Defence Department of his change of address and for not delivering up equipment when instructed to do so, Henry Roycroft, at present residing at Papatoetoe, was convicted and ordered to pay costs 12s in each case and to make good the sum of £3 os to the department. DRUNK IN CHARGE OF CAR Alan Smith, labourer, failed to put in an appearance when charged with being drunk while in charge of a car, and also with driving a car in a manner dangerous to the public. The senior-sergeant said accused was well known to the police, and had recently been before the court on a charge of drunkenness. On the first charge Smith was convicted and fined £2 with 16s costs, and on the second charge was convicted and fined £5 together with £2 16s costs, and his licence cancelled for 12 month.s
