IN IKE MARKET PLACE
ORANGES IN DEMAND APPLES EASIER Oranges are well sought after and are firm at from 17s 6d to 18s 6d for Cook Island varieties, and 19s to 22s for Sydney navels. Bananas bring firm values. Apples are slightly easier. Field and garden produce is well supplied. The big Cook Island shipment which came to hand last week was quickly absorbed. Over 20 per cent, of the shipment was waste, while approximately 6,000 cases were sent South. The balance will carry the local market on till the arrival of the next shipment in about a fortnight’s time. With the labour trouble experienced on the other side, there will be no shipment of citrus fruit from Sydney this week. The Tofua, from Fiji with bananas, is due on Monday next. Dessert pears sell freely at late quotations. In the field and garden produce section there is little alteration in values. All seasonal lines are well supplied, and prices keep within the range of the average housewife.
