Auckland Police Play THE SUN
SPORTING RUGBY WIN FOR THE FORCE A policeman's life, admittedly, is not a happy existence, but into the drab routine of the force THE SUN contrived to introduce a measure of brightness yesterday. The charitable achievement was principally effected through concessions in the matter of weight and height when THE SUN and the police Rugby fifteens lined out at Victoria Park yesterday afternoon. But what THE SUN team lacked in weight it made up in speed, with the result that the men in blue (red and black for the occasion) were thoroughly extended at several stages. Played throughout in steady rain, the match could hardly produce scientific Rugby, but it afforded amusement to a crowd of onlooKers, which was roused frequently to audible enthusiasm. Tries were scored for the police by Callaghan. Dunn, and Wilson, Callaghan converting one try. For THE SUN Harris kicked a penalty goal, the final score being 11 —3 in favour of the police. Mr. J. Corner was the referee, and his rulings were thoroughly satisfactory to all.
