HAMILTON TIGHTENS HOLD ON PEACE CUP

WAIPA RUGBY REPS. BEATEN Called upon to defend the Peace Cup against a challenge by Waipa, the Hamilton Rugby representative team again fulfilled the hopes of its supporters at Rugby Park on Saturday, and in an excellent game, won by 25 points to 14. The game ended with an unexpected incident, when H. Charleston scored for Hamilton after time was up. The bell sounded for the finish, but the ball had not gone out of play and in the intervening period Hamilton notched another try. HAD AN “OFF” DAY Badeley, the Hamilton fullback, had an “off” day and was not as consistent with his kicking as usual. McMillan, on the Hamilton wing, lacked confidence and did not use his pace. He did not figure often in the i goal work. i On the other wing, Snodgrass performed well and did everything required !of him. He handled smartly and supported Kemp nicely. “Snoddy” lias the pace too, despite his smallness of stature. Fitzgerald and Dil Carter, the Hamilton five-eighths, got through their share of the work well. The former displayed his ability to make openings, while the latter was sound on defence. Tuck played a fine game as half and was never caught with the ball. It would be hard to find his equal behind the Hamilton scrum, though Quin once left him badly in the open. KEMP IN FORM At centre, Kemp was in great form, and never missed an opportunity. Tie was the knife-point of all the Hamilton attacks. He was versatile and Cleveland looks like making a very good showing if he participates in the All Black trial embracing Waikato and the King Country.

Bayly again excelled himself as rover, and clearly indicated that he is well adapted for that position. He is a tower of strength to the Hamilton team. The Hamilton forwards, were if anything, a little superior to the Waipa pack and all through played well, it being difficult to single out the best. LEFT IT TOO LATE

The Waipa three-quarter line failed to get going until late in the game. Quin, as centre three-quarter, played a fine game and got through a lot of work for his team. He made some slashing runs and in one left the opposition standing to score a magnificent solo try. T . _ The Waipa fullback, Beet, was a little weak. Bell did well as live-eighths and made some good openings. In the Waipa pack Holmes and Walker were the pick, but Kirk and Storey were very useful.
