CRAMPED ODDS
TWO CUPS DOUBLE COMMENDATION—ROYAL FEAST Considering the first leg of the double is two months off, cramped odds are being taken about the Commendation— Royal Feast and Commendation—Son o’ Mine Cup doubles, both in Melbourne aijd Sydney. There was such a run on both last week that the books, tightened up the odds still further. Commendation for the Caulfield Cup now stands at a price that for this time of the season is prohibitive. He looks like being as red-hot a favourite for the race as Manfred, Whittier, and Eurytlimic were in recent years. He has only to reproduce in Australia the form he revealed in New Zealand to hold this position, while if he were capable of beating Limerick and all the other weight-for-age horses in Sydney, as New Zealanders prophesy he will, the Cup would be regarded as such a foregone conclusion that to wager on the race would be almost folly. The fact that no other horses are in demand, however, has something to do with Commendation’s quotation, and perhaps as the spring draws nearer others will come into the market to relieve the situation.
