ROTARY’S GOOD WORK
THE ANNUAL REPORT •The principal activity of the club during the period was the continuance j of the appeal on behalf of the Jubilee* Institute for the Blind," states the sixth * ( annual report of the Auckland Rotary , Club. "The appeal was organised by the secretary, the Rotary Club’s particular j effort being the calling upon employees i. of the shops, offices, factories and warehouses, and making an appeal to : them for small weekly sums. The j actual amount handed over by the Citi- 1 zens’ Committee, which was promoted i and supported by the Auckland Rotary Club, was £9.676 11s 9d. To this amount must be added, however, con- j siderable sums of money, which. ' although not obtained directly by the \ committee, were undoubtedly secured ' through its effort. “In addition to the usual Christmas J tree for the poor children of the city. ' which was attended by over 1,200 children, a special Christmas tree was organised by the club for the benefit of the inmates of the Mental Hospital. This activity, like many others, was organised by the club, but carried out by the co-operation of classification membership.” The club had also held concerts at the gaol, assisted the tour of the Ponsonby Boys’ Band, and made a regular supply of books and gramophone records to the Mental Hospital, Blind Institute and Public Hospital.
