LIFE AT ROTO ROA

NO GOOD TO O’MALLEY DRUNK PREFERS GAOL “T’D sooner be in Mount Eden than Roto Roa,” said Peter O’Malley at the Police Court today. He is in Mount Eden now. O’Malley was charged with drunkenness and breach of a prohibition order. Senior-Sergeant Edwards .said that O’Malley had been convicted for drunkenness five times since March. It seemed as if he should go back to the island. “Look here,” said O'Malley to Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M., “they’re dead bent on sending me to the island, but I tell you it’s no good to a man, and if you put me there I’ll escape in a week.” “Give a man a chance, your worship, and I’ll get away from the town.” Mr. Cutten: I’ll sentence you to a month’s imprisonment to see if that will pull you together.
