BOWLING AND CROQUET CLUB
BAZAAR AT RUSSELL With a view to raising money to j augment the funds of the bowling and croquet club, a large and influential committee was formed in Russell to , carry out the project, and on Thursday, July 28, the Public Hall was the scene of much activity. Mr. T. R. Clow, the president of the bowling club, and Mrs. Clow, the president of the croquet club, received the guests at an apron afternoon, which proved highly successful. The competitions were keenly entered into and were in the hands of the following ladies:—Table croquet, Mrs. C. Baker: ping pong. Mrs. J. Armitage; sweet shoe (representing the old woman who lived in a shoe), Mrs. Ted Martin: afternoon tea. Mrs. J. C. Martin, assisted by Mrs. Wright and Miss Holt; guessing competition, Mrs. Hodgson: golf. Miss Anderson: ankle competition, Mrs. Sim Williams. The game of quoits was provided for, and was in charge of Master Keith Sommerville. After a large number of entrants for the handsome prize for the best ankle had been judged, it was decided to award Mrs. Holmes the first prize, j Mrs. Taiera winning the second. At the conclusion of the evening’s ; entertainment dancing was indulged in i until a late hour. The result of the committee’s effort will mean a substantial addition to both club’s funds. During the dancing Mr. Sim Williams acted as master of ceremonies. If it is necessary to keep food hot for an invalid through the night, place a nightlight in a 21b syrup-tin and j lay two metal skewers across the top. On this a small saucepan can be kept i warm all night.
