“STILL FRAGRANT”

BUT NOT SO BAD Responding to the persistent demand by the Onehunga Borough Council that the New Zealand Farmers’ Fertiliser Company must abate the niusance caused by fumes issuing from its works at Te Papapa, the council last evening received a statement from the company to the effect that samples of the exit gases had been analysed, and found to contain only two grains of acid gases in a cubic foot, which was a very low percentage, as the English Act permitted the maximum of four grains per foot. The firm was, however, further considering a scheme whereby the nuisance would be still further reduced. A councillor observed that the effluvia was still strong, but not so obnoxious as formerly. The council agreed to suspend further action at present.
