RANGER RESIGNS

BAD TIME SUSPECTED An item on the agenda paper presented to Onehunga Borough Council last evening, and creating some material for surprise and conjecture, read: "H. G. Bennett writes complaining of the outrageous action of the council in appointing C. Gallie as ranger and pound-keeper and asking that the position be reconsidered.” Some difficulty has been experienced by the council in securing a suitable man for the office and renewed advertisements inviting applicants had to be resorted to. Later in the evening a letter was read from Mr. Gallie resigning the position, which he has held only a few days. The first-named letter was received only, without comment, and the resignation was accepted. The Alayor remarked: “Xo reasons are given for the resignation, but perhaps he has been having a bad time.”
