STEERING COLUMN

UNIQUE AND ADJUSTABLE If all men were proportioned according to standard dimensions, the problem of designing motor-cars would be much simpler. To make easy the proper adjustment of the steering column to the individual driver, a new adjustable steering column lias been developed by Willys-Overland engineers for the Whippet. Through a novel and exclusive design, it is possible to alter the distance between the edge of the front seat and the low point of the steering wheel by three incues. In the Overland Whippet the heavy man who is ordinarily cramped in the space between his lap and the edge of the wheel, can use this adjustment to get more satisfactory room, while the man who likes the wheel close to liis body when driving can make the adjustment to suit his personal comfort. Head room is also a marked feature' of this body. A man of average height- * can easily look over the top of the* . Whippet when it is standing at thA kerb yet a six-foot man can sit in tinfront seat and have to stretch his legs to touch the dash, while he has ampin room overhead to permit riding all day without feeling that his head is going to touch the inside of the roof. • A tall man, wearing the conventional type of hat, has about three inches betw’een the top of his hat and the roof. These comfort features have been,; I attained by a scientific use of the room available inside the body.
