DOUBTING AVONDALE ASKS QUESTIONS

AMALGAMATION BASIS Some pertinent questions have been put to the Auckland City Council by Avondale Borough Council on the question of amalgamation. These include: Is the City Council prepared to take in the whole of the borough as part of the city? On what terms and conditions is the council prepared to agree to amalgamation ? What representation is the council prepared to offer on the council? If amalgamation is effected, what would be the council’s attitude toward Avondale’s permanent officials? City councillors declined to discuss these matters in open council when the matter came before them last night. At the suggestion of the Mayor, Air. Baildon, they were referred to the Finance Committee.
