LAMBTON QUAY FIRE
WORKSHOP GUTTED EXTENSIVE DAMAGE DONE Press Association. WELLINGTON, Saturday. Several thousands c*f .pounds worth of damage was done by fire to a twostoryed wood and iron building in Lambton Quay, shortly after six o’clock this morning. The building was owned by James and Doherty, tailors, who use the first floor as a workroom. Most of the damage was done to the premises of Days., Ltd., ladies’ outfitters, on the ground lloor. Hundreds of frocks were ruined. Adams Bruce, Ltd., cakeshop adjoining the ground floor suffered loss by water. The fire apparently started in Doherty’s workroom, which was gutted. The insurances are as follows: Jay’s stock, £2,900, in the Prudential Assurance Co.; fittings, £l3O in the same office; Dohertys furniture and fittings, £3OO in the State Fire Insurance and a similar amount in the Liverpool and London and Globe; Adams Bruce, stock and fittings, £l5O, Royal Office, and £1,200 in the New Zealand Insurance.
