LYCEUM CLUB

MUSICAL CIRCLE The musical circle of the Lyceum Club, of which Miss Kent is convener, held an open evening on Friday, when a most enjoyable programme was contributed. The items were as follow: Trios, “Serenata” (Tocelli) and “March Viennois” (Kreisler), Mrs. Robertson, Miss Lloyd and Mrs. Watson: songs, “Down in the Forest’ (Landon Ronald), Airs. lan Simpson; piano solo, “Etude in E Major” (Chopin), and “valse” (Moszkowski), Miss Venables; song, “Shipmates o Mine,’ Mr. S. Hardwicke; recitations, “At the Academy” and “The Serial Picture,’ Miss Chesser. A BRIDGE EVENING A most enjoyable flag bridge evening was held at “Barnsley,” Wallace Street. Herne Bay, last week by Mrs. D. J. Thomson, who had organised the function on behalf of various charities. Eleven tables were arranged in the lounge room, which had been attractively decorated for the occasion. The guests included: Meadames Cramp, Cox, Inman, Whittin, Young, Worsfold, Noton, C. Hardley, J. Hardley, Evans, Sneddon, Hamblin, Mclnnes, Green, Gallaher, Gill, Renner, Misses Clouston, Grant Cowen, Noton, Hill, Worsfold, Renner. ST. GEORGE’S CHURCH SOCIAL CLUB A meeting of the Senior Club was held at the Papatoetoe vicarage on Thursday evening, when over 30 members attended. . , , The evening was mainly devoted to an interesting lecture on health by Dr. J. J. Valentine. The members who attended also saw many wonderful and wierd things through the microscope, kindly lent Dy the doctor. After the doctor's lecture the evening was spent in impromptu speeches, given by the following members: Miss K. Leonard, on ''Dogs”; Mr. T 11 Nicholson, "The Vicarage Curtains”' Miss K. M. Morey, ''Dancing': Mr H E. G. Matthews, “Baby Austins”; Rev. P. C. Davis, ~s,!'® Moon”; and Mr. K. Leonard, The Ladies.” After several chorus songs a dainty supper was dispensed by the ladies present, after which the meeting closed.
