"Russia’s Absurd Idea”
Revolution in Britain Mr. Thomas Speaks Out By Cable. —Press Association. — Copyright.
Received 9.30 a.m. LONDON, Friday. Mr. J. H. Thomas, in a speech to the conference of the National Union of Railwaymen, said: “ I hope Russia will immediately abandon the absurd idea that she is able to engineer a revolution in Britain, and dictate to our movement how we should conduct our business.”
“Russia’s mistake is in subsidising the wrong people. Neither a minority movement nor Communist propaganda can divert the great mass of British workers from the constitutional path toward social changes.” The conference unanimously condemned the Government for allow-
ing political prejudice to interfere with Anglo-Russian trade, declaring that the result of the Arcos raid did not justify a severance of diplomatic relations.—A. and N.Z.
