IZQ GOES UP

BROADCASTING STATION A WELCOME CHANGE Auckland is soon to Have another medium-powered broadcasting station. A very enthusiastic radio fan is Mr. Roy Keith, owner and operator of the private broad . xsting station IZQ. His transmissions, which have been on the air for some years past, have been steadily improving of late. “In a few weeks—by the middle of August at the latest—l will be broadcasting on higher power,” Mr. Keith told a SUN representative. “The unforunte fire here a few weeks ago has caused a delay, but the apparatus has now arrived and will be set up immediately.” The studio has in the past been in Mount Albert, but will now be moved to the city, where a suitable situation has been secured. In future the programme will consist mainly of vocal and instrumental items rendered by local artists, only about one-fifth of the total being gramophone numbers. Relays will be a feature of the broadcast. In the past IZQ has filled the gap on Sundays by an afternoon transmission, but now that IYA is broadcasting from 3 to 4.30 p.m. on that day, his usefulness in that way will be over. However,, a transmission on lYA’s silent day will be appreciated by Auckland’s crystal set owners. IZQ will continue to transmit on 330 metres, but with a power of 250 watts.
