WOMEN’S NARROW ESCAPE

FIRE AT N4PIER Press Association. NAPIER, Tuesday. Two women, \yho were upstairs at the time, had a narrow escape from being burned to death when a twostorey eight-roomed house, owned by Mr. E. Varley Hudson, of Auckland, and occupied bv Mr. H. Dixon, was almost completely gutted by lire this afternoon. Their escape was made possible only by the assistance of two men. who noticed their plight. The fire started in the wash-house. Nothing was saved. Mr. Dixon’s furniture was insured for £ 350 in the State Office. The top storey of the building was let as a flat, but the occupiers had no insurance on their furniture and effects.
