RELIGION AND WORK

RUMOURS IN WANGANUI REPUDIATED BY COUNCIL (Special to THE SUN.) WANGANUI, To-day. Persistent rumours have been circulated that certain men were refused work on the city relief works because they belonged to a certain denomination. A denial was given to these reports at the city council meeting last night. The engineer said he had asked the foreman to supply Information as to whether there was any justification for the rumour and his reply was that there was nothing in it. The Mayor said he trusted the council would never go the length of asking a man his religion when seeking work. That sort of thing must be “nipped in the bud.”
