ST. ANDREW’S SOCIETY
NEED FOR OWN HOME SATURDAY NIGHT’S SOCIAL THE appearance of the Haggis borne aloft by two of the vicepresidents, and preceded by a skirl of pipes, was a feature of the second social of the St. Andrew’s Society in the Town Hall Concert Chamber on Saturday evening. Speaking on the establishment of a building fund, Mr. J. B. Paterson the president, said that the society, which was one of the oldest in Auckland, had so far not had a home of its own. The council had decided to obtain the authority of the members to form a building fund. Promises of monetary assistance were at once forthcoming. Musical items were given by Mesdames X)e Berg and D. McLaren, and Messrs. Kay, W. IT. Paterson, and G. Spicer. Miss Lillian Braithwaite and Mrs. McGregor were the accompanists. Mr. D. Ferguson, the society’s pipemajor, played for an exhibition of Highland dancing, given by Miss Gwen McNaughton’s pupils. The other dance music was played by Kingsland’s orchestra.
