JUVENILE OFFENCES
INTERVIEWS AT SCHOOLS WANGANUI BOARD OBJECTS (Special to THE SUN.) WANGANUI, Friday. At last month’s meeting of the Wanganui Education Board the question of members of the police force interviewing children at schools in connection with alleged offences, was discussed and the board wrote to Commissioner Mcllveney regard the matter, pointing; out the board was of opinion that no child should be interviewed by a constable. If necessary such interviews should take place away from school and in the presence of parents or guardians. At the board’s monthly meeting last evening a reply was received from the Commissioner stating that it was not always desirable to carry out the views expressed by the board without hindering the police in the execution of their duty and jeopardising the interests of justice. Mr. J. K. Hornblow said it was not fair to have children interviewed at school. The home was the proper place. Other members of the board took a similar view and it was decided to refer the matter to the Minister of Justice.
