MORRINSVILLE V. WAIPA TE AWAMUTU, To-day. Ideal weather prevailed for the repr*. sentative football match against ll©**. rinsville at Te Awamutu on day afternoon. Waipa was without the services of some of its best players, but nevertheless put up a good tot* and it was only in the last few minute that the odds went against the home side. Holmes. Soon after starting Woodley set tht backs going. Anderson made a dash, passing out to Robson, and he in turn to C. Cameron, who dummied and scored between the posts. Robson took the kick and added the major points. Waipa now took a turn at attacking and Wenham was nearly over at the corner, being pushed out. The visitor* w r ere being penalised fer infringements in the scrum, and play became keen. Slow passing on the part of the Waipa backs prevented them gaining ground. They kept hammering away and at last were rewarded, Wilkes scoring a good try. Cairns took the kick, but the ball just went outside the upright. The second half started with Morrinsville throwing the ball about A knock-on again brought them back. Waiting for the bounce by Waipa nearly got them into trouble, but Holmes came away with the ball at his feet. Play was of a vsjy even nature, the Waipa forwards holding their own. D. Campbell secured and made a great dash for the line, and when stopped passed, but faulty handling spoilt a goo dchance. The last quarter saw Morrinsville attacking, but good kicking by Mate sent them, back. Scrums were formed is Morrinsville twenty-five, and amidst excitement Kirk got across the line. Bell took the kick but no goal resulted. Waipa forwards were playing a grea» game, but this was nullified by the short, quick passing of their opponents, who were only prevented from scoring by good tackling. One of the be* passing bouts of the match took place between the visitors’ backs, in which Woolley and K. Campbell were prominent, the latter scoring a good try. Robson took the kick and goaled, leaving Morrinsville victors by ten points to six. Mr. S. A. MacNamara refereed to the satisfaction of all.
