CHALIAPIN IN DISGRACE TITLE FORFEITED By Cable. —Press Association.—Copyright LONDON, June 16. The Riga correspondent of “The Times” says the executive of the Bolshevik Artists’ Trades Union requested the Commissar of Education to deprive Fedor Inano v i t c h Chaliapin, the singer, of his title of "the people’s artist.”
This -was conferred o n him in the early stages of the revolution because ha contributed Chaliapin 5,000 francs to the support of the unemployed Russian exiles in Paris.
The executive of the union said Chaliapin must now be regarded as “standing on the other side of the barricade.” Therefore they must tear from him the high title referred to.— Times-Sun.
