BIBLE IN SCHOOLS
ATTITUDE OF BOARD “NOT TAKING SIDES” Access to school registers is not to be granted the Bible in Schools League by three committees in the Auckland district. The New Lynj* Committee advised the Auckland Education Board that it would not consent to the proposal and asked why the board had placed the responsibility on the committee. The Auckland City and the Kaharoa committees were also opposed to it, and the Auckland Headmasters’ Association wrote expressing regret at "the precedent established by the board in granting outside bodies access to school registers. "It was not the object of the board to place the responsibility on the committees,” said Mr. A. Burns, chairman of the board. “If we had given unprovisional consent to the league to have access to registers, many committees might have resented it. The board’s attitude is not to take sides in the question. Personally, I think that a referendum should be taken at the general elections.”
