Educated at Marylebone Grammar School, he has been clerk, actor, schoolmaster, journalist and author. His bestknown book is the famous “Three Men In a Boat,” and his best play, the poignant “Passing of the Third Floor Back.” Last year he published a delightful autobiography, “My Life and Times.” Early this year he was made Freeman of the \ lllage of Walsall, his birthplace.
