GENEROUS SPORTSMEN ASSIST RUGBY
STAND FOR £1,500 AND ENABLE UNION TO PURCHASE PROPERTY (Special to THE SUE.) GISBORNE, To-day. Participation in one of the recent art unions having failed to produce anythink like the estimated amount, it looked as if the Poverty Bay Rugby Union’s plans to purchase a half-share in the Cricket Association’s grounds was going to fall through, but by the generosity of two Poverty Bay sportsmen the original proposal can now be carried out, the union having completed arrangements to acquire an interest in a large and valuable property. It was necessary under the proposed agreement for the union to find £1.500 cash, and this amount is to be advanced by the New Zealand Union under the guarantee of the two sportsmen referred to. These gentlemen, who insist on remaining anonymous, have previously assisted the Rugby Union materially, and have also been prominent in the past by generosity to other forms of sport.
