PAPATOETOE FINANCE
That the Papatoetoe Town District is maintaining its popularity as a residential area is proved by the annual statistical returns for the year ending March 31, 1927, which have just been compiled. A steady increase has been shown in the number of ratable properties in the district, and one of the new items shown on the return is the concreting of Great South Road. The income of the board practically doubled in comparison with the year ending March, 1926, while the expenditure showed an increase of only 50 per cent., while licences payable' to the board increased by 300 per cent., so taking all things into consideration, including the slump that is at present felt all over the Dominion. Papatoetoe’s prospects are bright. The figures for the two years are as under, 1926 figures being shown in parentheses:—Number of dwellings, 415 (358) ; ratepayers, 559 (471); ratable properties. 611 (576); concrete roads, 1 mile (nil); bitumen. 3 (3); metal, 12 (11); general rate, lAd (ljd); hospital and charitable rate, $d (Id); Papatoetoe Town Hall, l-16d (l-16d).
