LAID UP TONNAGE. —According to returns compiled by the Chamber of Shipping there were on the Ist April last 168 vessels, aggregating 239,681 tons net, laid up at the principal ports of Great Britain and Ireland, which compares with 230 vessels and 364.874 tons net on the Ist January. 311 vessels of 371,057 tons on the Ist October, 518 vessels of 859,739 tons net on the Ist of July, and 248 vessels of 359,848 ins net on the I st of April hist year. It wih thus Ik seen that, compared with a year ago, the present laid-up tonnage has decreased 33.39 per cent.
