Heed. 10.20 a.m. LONDON. Tuesday. THOUGH (the wicket was somewhat * worn, it played truly enough, and so the New Zealanders’ display was a great disappointment. Blunt played a restrained and confident game, but Lowry failed to settle down, and when he attempted one big hit, ha mishit so badly that he fell bach on a defensive game. XeGirr and Dacre established a partnership which promised for a while to save the game, especially McGirr, who realised his responsibility, hut at the same time was full of confidence. He scored 11 off one of Jupp’s orers. Dacre hit a sixer and then fell to

Scooter. The batting after lunch was rath< r •cratchy and the game reached an undistinguished conclusion. The Northants’ bowling was steady •nd of good length, though sometimes the bowlers got too much work on the Hail, but this does not account for the New Zealanders’ poor display. The match will long be remem'-ered to frittering for the sporting qualities •hown in it.
