WAIHI JUNCTION FIRMER BANK STOCKS ACTIVE Mining stocks registered increased activity on the ’Change this morning. Waihi Junction has hardened several points during the past week to sell this morning at Is 4d. The market , closed at mid-day with sellers Is sd, buyers Is 3d. Alburnias still command attention on a market that gives little indication of easing, and sales were put through this morning at 4s 9d. In the bank section the market is firm with a good inquiry, and most stocks are active at values firm at late quotations. Miscellaneous shares are quiet. Government and local body bonds and debentures are in good tone, with quotations tending to firm and fewer sellers in the market. FIJI BANANAS ARRIVE POTATOES FIRMER Apples have been slow of sale during the week and values are considerably easier. All varieties of fruit are well -upplied and the cold weather has brought about a slight easing in the demand all round. The Tofua to-dav brought a shipment of approximately 18,000 cases of Fiji bananas. Oranges are well supplied, and a further shipment from the Cook Group is due to arrive next week. In the field and garden produce section potatoes have advanced in value to 7s 6d a cwt., corresponding with the firmer values ruling in the South. Onions still remain a glut on the market and make poor values. Most lines of garden produce arc well supplied and meet with a steady demand at values well within the range of the average housewife. HEMP Manila market firm with an improved demand for close ’at hand. “A" grade May/June shipments sold £44 10s, June/ August shipments quoted sellers £44. Sisal market quiet. Tanganyika number one, June/August shipments quoted sellers £3B and number two, £37. New Zealand: Better demand for lower grades, common and rejected afloat sold £33 10s and £32 10s.
