“KNIGHT OF THE GARTER”
MR. E. ALDRIDGE, Mayor of Devonport. speaking at the Devonport Fire Brigade annual social on Saturday, related that he was asked how he was going to get on with the brigade; he replied: “I admit being a bit of a wowser, but both the brigade and myself are interested in the water question; more over I am fascinated always by a bit of hose.” (Laughter.) Later in the evening the Hon. E. W. Alison said that he supposed from the remarks of the mayor that he had aspirations above the mayoralty; “possibly of becoming a knight of the garter.”
