APPLICATIONS FOR TRANSFERS
CLOSING OF CARLAW PARK
THAT no affiliated League or district League body or club shall compensate any other affiliated League bodies or clubs for the transfer of any player. This was the notice of motion torwarded by the New Zealand League to a meeting of the Auckland Rugby League held last evening, dealing with the proposed alteration to the transfer rules. It was decided to defer consideration of the matter for one week, when all
the affiliated clubs will be given an opportunity to discuss it. L. Brown and B. Davidson both forwarded applications for transfers to an overseas club. The chairman, Mr Hammill, said that the letter had just been handed to the secretary of the Advisory Committee, and there had not yet been time to discuss it. The closing of Carlaw Park for training purposes during last week was discussed. A deputation from the City Club waited on the League, protesting against what was termed an unjustified action, as it caused considerable inconvenience to me players, many of whom came long distances to train. Mr. M. Wetherill, as spokesman for the City Club, said on several occasions his team was disappointed this season by the closing of the park. Mr. D. P. Deere, Marist, also protested against the action of the grounds committee. Mr. Hammill said he was strongly of the opinion that the ground was not fit to practise on, and the grounds committee was only endeavouring to preserve the park for future use. Jt was decided that in the future it would be advertised when the grounds were to be closed.
