Prime Minister's Hectic Week-End
SHOALS OF DEPUTATIONS Arriving in Auckland at noon yesterday,' the Prime Minister, the Hon. J. G. Coates, has spent two busy days. Starting with the Chamber of Commerce luncheon, he has since been occupied with official or party business, and has had little time to himself. When the Prime Minister is in action his official apartment at the Grand Hotel bears a busy appearance. Telegraph messengers. secretaries and shrill telephone calls provide “atmosphere,” while the Prime Minister, seated at a centre table, deals with deputation after deputation. “What is the trouble?” or “'What is this party about?” is his brisk way of getting a deputation down to business. This morning Mr. Coates dealt with deputations from 9 a.m. to noon, and was a guest at the Auckland Commercial Travellers’ and Warehousemen’s Club. This afternoon was devoted to private business, and this evening the Onehunga Orphans are entertaining the Prime Minister at what is known as an “Orphanosium.” On Monday morning he will hear several important deputations, and in the afternoon will leave for Tuakau and Taupiri, catching the second express for Wellington in the evening. Mrs. Coates, who is accompanying the Prime Minister, rested to-day.
