COMMENDABLE SCHEME
TRAMWAY APPRENTICES BOARD PAYS COLLEGE FEES (Special to THE SUN. ) CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. The Christchurch Tramways Board pays the fees of its apprentices who attend the School of Engineering at Canterbury College, provided that they attend regularly and that their work is reported upon favourably by the professors.
At this afternoon’s meeting of the board an.account was received of £ll6 for the fees of 23 apprentices, and was passed for payment. Mr. J. A. Flesher asked if the accounty were not high.
The chairman, Mr. A. S. Taylor, said that the apprentices were in all stages of work at the college, from elementary to advanced. Mr. F. W. White asked if there were any other employers who were doing the same as was the Tramway Board, or if the board was the only employer on the Canterbury College list. The chairman could not say.
“One commends the scheme heartily,” said Mr. White. “I was wondering if other employers are doing the same.
