CHRISTCHURCH FIRES
BRIGADE’S BIPy DAY Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. The Christchurch Fire Brigade answered three calls in six hours yesterday morning. At 2.12 a.m. it was called to a fire in a five-roomed house in River Road,, owned by Mr. John Wigs and occupied by Mr. P. J. Vincent. The fire originated in the dining-room, the contents of which, were destroyed. Other parts of the house suffered from smoke and water. The contents of the house were insured for £2OO in the Victoria Office. Twenty minutes later the brigade was called to a brick store in Tuam Street, occupied by Mr. George Cowan and owned by Miss A. Lane. The stock was considerably damaged. It was insured for £l5O in the Alliance Office, and the building for £450 in the National Office. At 8.50 o’clock an outbreak occurred in a five-roomed house at Merivale. The brigade suppressed this fire before serious damage was done.
