Call to Shareholders. —A call of Id per share, payable on May 28, has been made by the directors of the Maoriland Consolidated Gold-Mining Company. American Millionaires. —The numnumber of American dollar millionaires has grown from 21 in 1921 to 207 last year, seven of these incomes exceeding 5,000,000 dollars each. This increase is said to be due to the reduction of taxation on large incomes. Eightytwo per cent, of the population goes untaxed, while a fraction of 1 per cent, pays 95 per cent, of the total tax collected. Seven individuals pay a total of 61,352,863 dollars. Big Profits in Soap. —Despite the labour troubles, the sales of soap of the Lever group of companies were more than maintained in 1926. The annual report cf Lever Brothers shows a net profit of £4,899,966 for the year 7 926. This compares with £5,501,556 for the previous year. The Preference and Preferred dividends for the year again absorb £4,895,528 and the balance of £4,437 has been placed to reserve. The distribution is as follows: . 7 per cent. Apples in Argentine. —The New Zealand Fruit Export Control Board has received the following cablegram from Messrs. J. J. Hore and Co., Montevideo, in reference to sales of apples sent by the Pakeha:—We have sold 9,000 cases. Delicious, extra 16s 9d; fancy, 15s sd; Jonathan, 13s 7d: Premier, 12s 7d. Dunns, owing to strong Chilian competition, are not selling. The shipment by the Pakeha included 2,654 cases of Jonathan, 6,346 of Delicious and 1,057 of Premier. The total consignment of Dunns on the steamer was cases.
