TAILOR FOUND GUILTY
“REMARKABLE DEFENCE” JUDGE’S COMMENTS IN SERIOUS CASE ‘T, he de *ence is a very remarkable nr. said his Honour Mr. Justice stringer yesterday, when he was referthe plea put up by a city tailor. McDonald, 53, that the chief wit- £, s>s for the prosecution was the real offender. McDonald, who was charged with inassault on a male, was found . uuty by the jury after a retirement °\r° ne hour and a-half. x•a .. L -. Pa terson, for the Crown, the evidence for the defence has no thing more or less than a foul uncation of the evidence of the chief itness for the prosecution. There is o reason to doubt the statements of tao youth.”
His Honour: It is held that the man vm S *K^ e P ass * ve instrument and the • utn was the active criminal. There f«? a *i not seem to t>e any justification the statement that the youth was to deal with this sort of case, and i enough a great deal has been said aoout prisoner’s age and his general naracter. I am bound to warn the t, ry . that in the experience of the f Ur^ s an d life generally it has been , Un< * that this kind of offence is <,2 Uall £ P er Petrated by men of middle n , e ; . They are abnormal and possibly diseased. Prisoner’s age * ncl otherwise respectable character really nothing to do with a case ot r tms sort. *he prisoner was remanded until tomorrow for sentence.
