Former heavyweight boxing champion of the world Jack Dempsey certainly was a great fighter. Despite the fact that his star has waned since the memorable afternoon he beat Jess Willard at Toledo, as a speaker he has greatly improved. Recently he faced a packed house at a boxing tournament and one of his remarks struck the fancy of the audience. “I remember fighting in this ring years ago,” he said. “I was ambitious then to become heavyweight champion of the world. And I still have that ambition,.” It was the old Dempsey that spoke—the Dempsey who once startled the boxing world by smashing his way to the top. Who knows ?
