N.Z. Cricketers Have Night Out On Board Ship
Fuji is Fast and Furious at Fancy Dress Ball DEMPSTER WINS PRIZE At a fancy dress bail on the R.M.S. Tahiti on the way to England, the New Zealand cricketers were very much in the limelight. Dempster won the prize for the most popular costume, and several others were singled out for humorous reference in the ship’s newspaper. “Mr. Dempster as a ‘Monkey’ did everything but pelt the onlookers -with coconuts,” says “The Wireless News.” “He looked as though he would have done that, too, if the nuts had been available. His tail became rather frayed as the evening wore on. “Much amusement was provided by two ‘Maoris,’ whose sunburnt skins left stains on many a white coat. We think that Messrs. Dacre and Page felt more at home at the wickets than robed in such lavish garments! “The blushing ‘Nurse,’ who, in sober moments is Mr. Merritt, was really scared of the wild-eyed ‘Castaway.’ played by Mr. McGirr, whose ‘hardhitter’ caused more comments than the leading article in ‘The Wireless News.’ ”
