“MARE NOSTRUM”
When the armed freighter “Mare Nostrum” steamed out of Marseilles and disappeared into the gathering darkness of night in search of a submarine nest, known only to her captain, and failed ever to return, it was classed as one of the many sea mysteries of the war years. That a German submarine also disappeared about the same time and in the same vicinity gave rise to certain speculations among those who were permitted to know the facts, but the true story has never been told until now.
