PUKEATUA RATEPAYERS

DISTRICT ROADMAKING At a meeting of the Pukeatua Riding Ratepayers’ Association matters affecting the riding were discussed, the roading works of the district receiving particular consideration. Mr. T. Wake presided. It was decided to invite the engineer of the Waitemata County Council, Mr. A. Murray, to meet settlers at Rangitopuni to discuss the completing of the road connection with Paremoremo Wharf and the clearing of the Ridge Road to make it passable. The secretary, Mr.’ Crooks, reported that the Main Highways Board had approved the use for road-making of the local shingle taken from the Rangitipuni quarry. This would mean that the Kumeu-Albany-Birkenhead road would be metalled more cheaply and more expeditiously. A resolution was carried protesting against the enforcement of the council’s building by-laws in the district. It was stated that the obligation to pay for a permit for the smallest buildings bore heavily on struggling ratepayers.
