CHEATING THE SEA

STRANDED STEAMERS REFLOATING OPERATIONS By Cable. — Press Association.—Copyright Reed. 10.50 a.m. SYDNEY, To-day. Strenuous efforts will be made at high tides commencing on Saturday to refloat the stranded steamers Riverina and Tasman. Nearly 500 tons of general cargo have been landed from the Riverina and her fruit cargo has been jetti•oned.

The tug Coringa is standing by the Tasman and the steamer Vanderwyck should reach the scene to-day to take off the Tasman's cargo. It is expected that both steamers will be sufficiently lightened by Saturday to commence refloating operations. —A. and N.Z.
