An Open Air Page

For Big Girls and Boys

MANY SUBJECTS

THERE’S a breath of summer in the air to-day and your Great Chief has been standing at the door of the Wigwam looking out on a fair world. The approach of winter is just a myth after all and not for a moment to be believed in. Let us tuck the very thought of it out of sight and make merry on the brink of the Lake of Many Waters. The Totem-Pole stands proudly erect to-day, scored with the inscriptions of many new names and the flap of the Wigwam has a well-thumbed look that tells of frequent entry. The Wednesdays slip by apace and each week the Chiefs and Braves become dearer to me, so that compiling their page is a matter of the very loftiest kind of joy. To have the confidence of so many young people, just embarking on their different missions in life, is an honour that any Great Chief might carry proudly in his heart. Our pen-name competition is proving very popular and it is an exciting business discovering the compilers of the various lists. The essays too are steadily coming to hand and I hope to much material to deal with. You will notice that the competitions close on May 18 and the results will be announced in the Wigwam page of the following week, so that there is still time to steal away for a quiet half hour and give the matter your consideration. A wise old maxim assures us that it is “better to be sure than sorry.” This week some exquisite Indian pictures have come by magic to the Wigwam and I should like to thank those who are taking such a practical interest in our page. I should also like to ask my Guide-Braves for any photographs on Guiding matters that would be suitable for reproduction, in order that their corner may not be overshadowed by the alert young Scouts. These two sections should balance on the scales without a fraction of preponderance on either side. Your fraternal, 'REDFEATHER.
