TE AWAMUTU BY-ELECTION

(From Our Own Correspondent.) TE AWAMUTU, To-day.

At the recent election for nine seats on the Te Awamutu Borough Council, only seven candidates came forward, and these were accordingly elected. The Mayor was also elected unopposed. Since the election, two candidates, Messrs. S. Clark and J. Marshall, have been nominated to fill the extraordinary vacancy caused, thus causing an election, which took place on Tuesday. There was considerable interest manifested in the contest. Air. Clark was formerly a member of the council, and acted on several committees. Mr. Marshall is a new aspirant for municipal honours. The result of the voting was as follows: S. Clark, 187; J. Marshall. 197: informal, 1: majority for Marshall, 10.
