TRAINING BOYS FOR TRADES—EMPLOYERS DOING THEIR SHARE?
(From Our Resident Correspoyident.) WELLINGTON, To-day. The Minister of Education considers that the employers are not doing their share towards the employment of apprentices, and are not taking the apprentices to which they are entitled. “They say,” he declared, “that the machinery is too expensive, and that boys are not profitable. I am not suggesting that employers should take on too many boys; but the Arbitration Court has laid down a certain rule, and I think the employers ought to endeavour to meet the position and so provide our tradesmen for the future.”
