NATIONAL AND LYRIC
“TWINKLETOES”
Colleen Moore is adding - to her army of followers here by an appearance in golden curls and an entirely different type of role in “Twinkletoes,” current attraction at the National and Lyric Theatres. An excellent supporting cast depicts Thomas Burke’s picturesque characters of the Limehouse Kenneth Harlan, Gladys Brockwell,, Warner Oland, Tully Marshall,
Julanne Johnston, Lucian Littlefield, and John Philip Kolb are featured. Besides the principals, an army of colourful Limehouse folk, of all races, types, and pursuits, lend further atmosphere to the narrow, crooked streets and alleys and wharves of London’s famous waterfront district.
A spectacular production on the same programme is “Love’s Whirlpool, ’ released by First National Films. It shows the tender spots of a crook’s heart in a story that is interspersed with thrills, mystery, and romance. James Kirkwood, in the part of a crook, seeks to injure the man who sent his younger brother to gaol. Aided and abetted by his wife (Lila Lee), he goes far to accomplish his object, till his wife’s better nature
overcomes all thoughts of revenge, and she double-crosses her husband, frustrating his plots for revenge, and eventually converts him to a better man. It is a pathetic picture all through, and the varying emotions of the players are given ample scope. In support is Madge Bellamy, Robert Agnew, Margaret Livingstone, Edward Martindel and Mathew Betz.
