METHODIST CIRCUIT
INDUCTION AT DEVONPORT REV. J. MARTIN WELCOMED Twenty-one years ago the Rev. G. Frederick Martin joined the Methodist ministry in Auckland. After extensive service in various parts of New Zealand and recently at Greymouth, he has returned to Auckland, being inducted last evening to the charge of the Devonport circuit. In addition to his circuit duties Mr. Martin is also Methodist naval chaplain for the Auckland district. There was a large attendance at the Devonport church last evening, when the induction service was held. The Rev. E. Drake presided and was assisted by the Revs. S. Griffiths and G. B. Hinton.
The new minister was presented by Mr. E. Chivers, circuit steward, who in welcoming Mr. and Mrs. .Martin into their midst, assured them of the unswerving loyalty of the adherents in the Devonport circuit. Expressing his gratification at the warm and very encouraging welcome extended, Mr. Martin said that lie had indeed welcomed the opportunity afforded him of ministering to the oeople of Devonport, and trusted that he would be able to serve with joy and success for many years to come. A suitable charge to the minister and people was given by the Rev. E. Drake, appropriate music being supplied by the choir under Mr. Beck, with Mr. B. Elliott presiding at the organ. Following the service a very pleasant social hour was spent in the schoolroom, in the course of which a welcome from the Devonport people was extended by Mr. Perry Taylor. Musical items contributed by Mrs. Wardell, Miss D. Johnston- and Mr. Norton, and a recitation by Miss Molly Kitching, contributed to the enjoyment of a pleasant gathering.
