BRITAIN AND BALKANS TIRANA TREATY DISPUTE By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Reed. 10.30 a.m. LONDON, Monday. Sir Austen Chamberlain, Foreign Minister, has issued a statement on the Ita.lo-Albanian Treaty of Tirana. He said it was a treaty of nonaggression and arbitration, and guaranteed Albania’s independence. It had been registered with the League of Nations. Britain had no direct interest in the question, but had done her best to allay suspicion and facilitate Italo-Yugoslav conversations, with a view to settling the outstanding difficulties arising from the treaty. He did not advise recourse to League intervention before the parties had met and discussed the difficulties. The Powers had decided that at present it was not necesarry to conduct inquiries into the alleged military preparations by Yugoslavia. Britain had no other interest than the preservation of peace, and had no intention of taking sides. —A. and N.Z.Sun.
