Salvation Army Starts Offensive
BIG CAMPAIGN TO SAVE FALLEN AND DESTROY WORLDLINESS Press Association WELLINGTON, To-day. The Salvation Army is holding a Dominion congress here, at which over 400 members are assembled. Commissioner Hay is presiding. The leaders set out the policy of the Army in the shape of additional corps work, more aggressive open-air activity, more young people's work, and even greater and more intense labour for the fallen and distressed. Resolutions were passed dealing with worldliness, frivolity, drunkenness, drugs and gambling, including art unions, and the totalisator. The maintenance of Sunday school activities is to go hand in hand with more decided evangelism, and the application of measures likely to succeed in saving men and women. Finally an effort is to be made to increase the Army 20 per cent, by next Christmas. Large public meetings and children’s demonstration are included in the programme of the congress, which will last till Wednesday.
