The Hon. A. D. McLeod left Wellington yesterday by the Marama for Sydney. At Canberra he will represent the New Zealand Government at the opening of the Federal Parliament House. Luring his absence the Hon O. J. Hawken will administer the Lands portfolio. Mr. G. L. Greenwood, the wellknown pastoralist and racehorse owner, has left for a trip to America. Mr. E. S. Fay, operating assistant, New Zealand Railways, returned to Wellington by train last night. Mr. G. S. Lynde, chief mechanical engineer of the New Zealand Railways, left by train for Wellington last evening. Dr. F. L. Pinfold has been appointed Deputy-Mayor of Hamilton. He topped the poll in the recent municipal elections in that town. Mr. Dynes Fulton, of Tuakau, chairman of directors of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Co., Ltd., is in Auckland, and is staying at the Star Hotel. Mr. Leo du Chateau has arrived in Auckland to make arrangements for the season of “The Best People” and “Meet the Wife.” which will open on May 14. Mr. J. Drummond, headmaster of the Auckland Grammar School, who has been ill for some time, will not resume his duties until the end of the present term. Mr. H. J. D. Mahon is actingheadmaster in his absence. Among the passengers who will leave by the Tainui for England on Wednesday will be Mr. A. Gibbs, chief telegraph engineer to the New Zealand Government. Mr. Gibbs is going to England to study the developments in telegraphy and telephony, and next October he will represent New Zealand at the International Radio Conference at Washington.
